| About Us Tradition: a word summarizing the philosophy behind Royal Class Barber Shop. Alex; the owner, along with his talented and seasoned staff, is rooted firmly in tradition. Coming from a family of barbers, his father, brothers and uncles, even his mom brandished a scissor. TRADITION. You could say he was born into it. At age 16, he started his own shop in Brooklyn. Eventually, he had a very busy shop located in Roosevelt Field, hosting 60 chairs. Some three years ago, he felt there was a need for a quality barber shop to service the Merrick area, and the surrounding vicinity as well. He opened his doors on July 5th, 2004, and has been satisfying customers, young and old, ever since. Speaking of young, Royal Class has a section of the shop set up especially for kids. Four "truck" chairs, video games, and cheerful colors liven the experience. The staff is well versed in accommodating and catering to the future movers and shakers of Merrick. Eli, whose professional hair cutting days began in Russia, eventually found himself on Madison Avenue, with quite a following. His skill and relaxed demeanor were recognized by the who's who crowd of the financial world, who often stopped in for a mid afternoon shave and refresher. His popularity was further recorded in the New York Times, an article that still ornaments his station. Israel, Alex's brother, also has remained entrenched in the family business, tradition in his blood as well. And then there is Irina; Alex's charming wife who contributes her skills on Saturdays and Sundays, specializing in up-do's, facials, mini highlights and helping to make the little girls look beautiful. Upon my visit, the shop was immaculate, adorned with flat screen TV's, plenty of magazines that never get read (due to prompt service) and old world barber chairs, the white metal ones that make everyone feel nostalgic. Besides professionalism, Royal Class is known for the "triple play". A haircut, shave and mask, the mask being their trademark. After a skillful shave, which includes three applications of hot towels and different lotions, a shave with and against the grain, to ensure the closest shave possible, the mask is finally applied. Resting beneath your towel covered face, the mask dries and tightens your pores. Removed with a cool damp towel and a massage, your face feels completely rejuvenated, smoother than a baby's behind. Royal Class Barbershop sincerely treats each and every customer like royalty, regardless of their needs and desires. Whether your appointment is for a trim, a shave, a cut or the "triple play", your every whim is catered to with the utmost professionalism. The staff at Royal Class leaves no stone unturned, no hair uncut, ensuring every client feels royally special. - Brian Strauss |
